Player Play Up Application and Process

A player being evaluated to play up will participate with players in the requested higher age division so evaluators can assess how they perform at the increased pace and level of play.

The evaluation will focus on the player’s skating, puck skills, hockey sense and decision-making, game performance, physical readiness and safety, maturity, coachability, effort and ability to compete with older players. Evaluators will also consider how the player performs with and without the puck, responds under pressure, follows coaching direction, handles adversity and adjusts to the speed and physical demands of the higher division.

The purpose is not simply to determine whether the player is a strong player in their current division. The evaluation determines whether the player demonstrates the overall ability, safety, maturity and developmental readiness necessary to compete successfully at the higher level. A successful evaluation is a recommendation for play-up consideration and does not automatically guarantee approval.

If selected for evaluation, the player will be assessed on skating, puck skills, hockey sense and decision-making, game performance, physical readiness and safety, maturity, coachability and overall developmental readiness.

I understand that a successful evaluation is only one component of the approval process. Final approval remains subject to CMHA requirements and all applicable league and governing-body requirements.
